Mongolia Beer

Mongolia beer is defined by large-scale domestic brewing, straightforward lager production, and a beer identity shaped more by modern industry than by old regional brewing traditions. APU, founded in 1924 and based in Ulaanbaatar, is the country’s oldest company and largest brewer, giving Mongolia’s beer profile a strong industrial center of gravity. That makes the national beer identity less about a wide range of historic styles and more about reliable, locally produced beer brands suited to broad domestic consumption. While Mongolia’s beverage culture is often discussed through dairy drinks and spirits, beer has carved out a clear place through modern manufacturing and urban distribution. The result is a beer identity that feels practical, nationally scaled, and tied to twentieth-century commercial development rather than farmhouse or monastic brewing legacies. As a result, beer from Mongolia reflects the country’s modern industrial history and its preference for accessible, domestically produced staples.
